This room is our smallest double, 1st floor with fantastic views out over the cliff tops to the Farne Islands. The room is en suite with bath & shower over.
Less than 150 metres in length. Little Scarcar is positioned to the East of the Farne Island, tucked in next to The Bush & other small outcrops, sheltered from the North by Knocklin Ends, the furthest east tip of Farne Island.
There are over 36’000 pairs of breeding puffins on the Farne Islands, Amongst a total of 290 bird species which have been recorded including in the 1760s, an example of the now extinct Great Auk.
Bird populations fluctuate dramatically throughout the year reflecting breeding season with many migrating during the winter. Destinations range from Libya to Gibraltar but by far the furthest was when an Arctic tern from the Farnes, ringed as a chick not yet old enough to fly in summer 1982, reached Melbourne, Australia in October 1982, a sea journey of over 22,000 km (14,000 mi) in just three months from fledging. This remains one of the longest distances travelled by any bird.
