Longstone island forms part of the outer farne and is home to the Longstone light house which was originally known as the Outer Farne lighthouse. The lighthouse was built in 1826 and used Argand lamps in 1952 the lighthouse was converted to use electricity and in 1990 became fully automated. The lighthouse was once occupied by Grace Darling and her father and is known for the 1838 wreck of the Fortarshire and the role of Grace Darling in the rescue of the sailors. You can explore longstone island and lighthouse with a day visit on the MV Golden Gate, which leaves form Seahouses Harbour
